How big are next chapters going to be? Chapter 1 is very long and i like that. Are next chapters going to be bigger? Smaller? And could you tell us HOW big or small are they going to be compared to chapter 1? If you don't want to reveal that just say it so i won't check the forums every minute for your response. I was NoClipping around the house this evening, trying to find secrets and other various things i have missed, when i found this in the tunnel where you cannot yet continue.
He'll follow you, it's a full model, looks like Guilt to me.
Setting up Hammer for Underhell?
I have been able to partially set up hammer for Underhell, but with a few side effects.
This is how I first set it up, there is no .Fdg file so i had to use hl2's. And the build programs are the same as hl2's too.
However, when I started a new map the error "missing material editor wireframe" came up. The editors material files were missing, so I did this.
I tried to copy over the textures.vpk files from hl2 over to underhell, by both putting them in the main folder and adding the path in the gameinfo.txt
The red marker shows what was already in the .txt file before I edited it. And it doesn't seem to have any textures for hammer? (could be wrong)
So I was now able to create a map with hammer with and without problems.
So this is a map I made yesterday.
As you can see the combine_s appear as soldiers. The textures work correctly, however, any new entities such as Weapon_melee_axe will not appear in the list.
there is a bypass for this though as I have done, but they appear as obsolete. The entities work ingame. but I'm not able to edit the properties, for example, you can not
choose a skin for the soda can, and properties like Uh_spotbodies does not exist.
So I hope anyone has a solution to this as Underhell is one of my favorite games out there, thanks.

Before posting your error, be sure to try this :
Try to verify the integrity of your game cache.
Go to your Steam window and go in the Tools tab, and right click on Source Sdk Base 2007, then click on properties.
There click on the Local Files tab, and click on the Verify Integrity of Game Cache button.
This should fix most Local Files errors, which are VERY common
Make sure to update your graphic card drivers, as Underhell makes usage of some custom shader effects.
KNOWN ISSUES/CRASHES :
Too many verts for a dynamic vertex buffer (xxxxxxxx>xxxxx) Tell a programmer to up VERTEX_BUFFER_SIZE
This crash most often happens when ALT+TABBING the game, but it can also happen in very large areas with lot of combat happening.
It is very rare, if it happens, just load your latest save and it should not happen again within the same map.
Just reload and continue playing as normal.
"Can't load lump 8, allocation of ******** bytes failed!!!"
This is a very rare memory crash that happens after many hours of continuous play.
We intend to fix it as soon as possible in a future patch. If you get this error, simply reload your latest save from the Load Game menu, and the error should not happen again.
FIXED ISSUES/ CRASHES:
CFileSystem_Steam::Init() failed: failed to find steam interface
This is a SteamPipe related issue, unrealted to the mod itself. Head over to your Steam TOOLS list.
Right click your SOURCE SDK BASE 2007 and click properties then click the BETAS tab and chose the SteamPipe beta as the beta you would like to opt into.
It seems underhell will crash if you try to run it on low settings, so I upped the settings and it work. Might not affect everyone.
Turning the flashlight on seems to crash the game?
This appears to be a drivers issue on some graphic cards. See the Black Mesa FAQ for more info.
Try reducing shadows details to Medium or Low, or try disabling HDR (set it to none)
If above fails try the following fix :
(Warning: This fix will disable the flashlight shadows, and cause flashlights to go through walls)

The game keeps randomly crashing after I wake up in the bed, and walk downstairs.
According to Windows, it has something to do with a file called "shadereditor_2007.dll". Of course, I have no clue if that is the main cause, though...
EDIT : I just figured out that the problem was due to the game being in DirectX 8. Switching it to DirectX 9 fixed the problem.
MAKE SURE TO DISABLE MSI AFTERBURNER BEFORE LAUNCHING THE GAME :
Here's what I found: ABSOLUTELY, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, NEVER EVER USE MSI AFTERBURNER WITH THIS GAME. ITS DLL BLOCKING TECHNOLOGY WILL SLOW DOWN YOUR GAME DRAMATICALLY AND DISABLING THIS FEATURE HAS NO EFFECT. Will repost this info on my blog (it's pretty much my username with a .com) and I look forward to giving my viewers a good review of this game!!
Engine Error: Could not load library client
This is most likely related to a corrupt download/extraction of the file, try re-installing or redownloading.
If it still happens, try logging out of your Steam completely, and log back in. : Thanks to "Ardent_Assailant" for the fix
Game Stuttering/Microfreezes :
Figured out how to stop stuttering, may as well post my cure for the people who experience the same problem.
The problem was that multicore rendering was blacked out in the options menu, every core was being used. Source doesnt really like multicore.
So I went to task manager, right clicked hl2.exe, "Set Affinity" and set it to just Core 1. Runs like a dream now.

I was doing an "all cards" playthrough the other day, which I didn't get all the cards for by the way. I was missing the ace of diamonds, ace of clubs, nine of diamonds and nine of clubs.
On this playthrough I noticed something on the PDA that you see in Matthew's contact's office. Matthew says that is his real name, but he never confirms that Porter is his last name.
I just thought the PDA was a cryptic "this cheesy book is important" type deal. I didn't realize it was a code with Matthew's name.
I'm having a constant problem when shutting off the power relays.
So when we shut off the power and run, Matt goes to close the door but instead he goes through the closing animation and the door doesn't close. This makes it impossible for me to place my axe and the other guy puts his gun there instead and dies. And then sometimes, because the door hasn't closed, infected start running in as well.
And then there's the one that dies at the vent. The door is always locked. I can't kick it down and kill the infected behind the vent, so he always dies too.
Any way to fix this? I want to try a "save everyone" run and also grab all the cards.
The Future Features of Underhell
With the steam version to come out eventually, there are a lot of cool things I and a lot of others would like to see from MXthe's time on insurgency. I tried talking with MXThe about this on steam but you can't message people on steam if they're not your friend. So i sent him an FR and he denied it since he doesn't know me. So i thought i'd deposit my two-cents here on the forums. Alright enough chit-chat, let's get into it.
1.Insurgency's weapon sway: I liked how you had free-aim to replace inflating crosshairs in Underhell but the movement for free-aim was kind of stiff and jerky in my opinion. I was thinking MXThe could add insurgency's smooth side-to-side weapon sway.
2. Better gore: This has been brought up before but I imagine a gore system similar to Contagion. Where combined with dismemberment and decapitations you can chip off bits of flesh from an NPC's legs, arms and torso. It would also be cool to see more meat chunks from decapitations rather than the blood stream we have now.
3. Blood pools: Black Mesa-esque blood pools.
4. I've seen this has been brought up in another thread, but still worth a mention. Safe room characters that follow you: Rather than have everyone stand around like a bunch of lazy asses, if a guard isn't busy he'll follow you out into the danger zone. For example, say Eric isn't busy and is just sitting in his chair at the end of the hallway, he'll ask if you need anything, that's when a menu option pops up with ENTER and BACKSPACE. ENTER will have him follow you, BACKSPACE will cancel the interaction. And when you and your companion find a survivor, they will add some extra dialogue.
NEW 5. Hold-to-aim. Rather than toggling ironsights you also have the option to Hold the designated key.
That's all i got so far.
Cant Move on! at Hostage part
Hi i have had this game for a long! time and there is a bug that i feel has never been fixed!
im at the part where you have to rescue the hostages and bring each one back to the safe zone. But after bringing the last hostage to the safe zone. Nothing happens.
Its like it does not register and i am STUCK and cant move on!! Please HELP! i have been looking everywhere on forums for a fix.
I have tried restarting at an earlier part of game to lead up to the hostage part and the same thing keeps happening. The game does not register the last hostage and the game does not progress.
Let's talk about underhell and source 2, cyber phantoms and project EKG
It has been a while since last update on steam release, latest update on underhell's moddb page only talked about chapter 2, which is on a concept stage. This got me thinking, could mxthe be holding development of underhell and waiting for source 2? He said that if source 2 came out during the development he would consider porting the game to it. It's just around the corner, because valve has already finished their work on HTC Vive and it was set for release in first half of 2016. Now, about mxthe's other 2 projects: Cyber phantoms and project EKG. You can see the names of projects on mxthe's website mxthe.com, unfortunately, that's it, just the names.
I have checked his steam profile recently. His spent hours on alien swarm SDK is 190, 2 hours past two weeks though.... this could mean that while he is waiting for source 2, he could also be developing another mod or game. So perhaps we will see underhell on steam after source 2 comes out, and since valve said that source 2 will be much easier to use, it might not be long before we see it

1. This chapter (second) would be mod for S-SDK 2007 or Official game on source engine like Stanley Parable and some other projects?
2. Chapter need HL2?
3. This final chapter or no?
4. At this chapter we can see old good characters - Bryan, Alex (Maybe in zombie role?), Terry, Mike (SWAT), Hermit (BEST CHARACTER) and his TURTLE, Benjamin, Matthew (Maybe he alive?)...(Idk more)
5. We would playing in city or again in A.R.C?!
6. And finale.... you would add new WEAPONS and other things? (Food, drinks)
7. Really finale! You would add scripts for items? Food - eat. Bandages - bandaging...

Computer Hardware in chapter 1
So I started watching Underhell gameplays and I remembered one thing. When Ben asks you to bring him his hard drive or something from his locker in exchange for shoulder flashlight, he also says that there are some computer parts along with it if you need them. Can you use those parts for something?
Bugs after messing around for a day.
I got bored, thought I would play some Underhell since it's one of my favourites and I had not played it in a while.
In uh_chapter1_02 map after signing the first checkpoint in the game, if you go too fast to the canteen, the guard you are supposto follow will get stuck in the room with the checkpoint. (you can walk back and if you hug the door he can walk through it to the otherside)
You can trap NPCs (works best on guards who only have batons) with different props like crates and laundry carts. Was pretty useful when trying to save Todd, just put a gas canister in front of the vent and you don't even have to kill the zombies.
You can fly with the flare box in the house. (place it next to a wall, get on top of it and pick it up.)
There are also some places you can get to just by stacking crates and other things on top of eachother, like the catwalk in canteen. Haven't found any particularly useful ones yet.
The cypher can go inside you and make you get stuck forever.
Survivors getting stuck trying to pick up weapons out of reach.
Also survivor Joseph is pretty much 100% not going to stay in safe room and will keep following Jake.
Holding down reload and shoot sametime with sniper rifle enables rapid fire destroy everything in your way mode.
Spamming ironsight let's you rapid fire shotguns.
Final one for now, Quilt in dreams after chapter 1 simply being stuck forever in front the cabinet when hiding.
Steam release
I love the underhell and i heard, that there will be a steam release. When does the steam release come out?

Definitely have a read. Unfortunately no new chapter this year, but it's still being worked on, so take comfort in that.
We must remember that Chapter 2 is the biggest chapter. I can see why it's taken 3 years so far, and most likely a few more before we see the city.
It's worth the wait.

Let's talk character redesigns
With talk of Underhell possibly being moved from Source to UR4, it makes me think what our favorite characters would look like with new, custom made assets and models. I've been rummaging around some ideas and I think I have a good picture of what our character's outfits will look like.
First off, I believe both the security guards and the PMCs should be wearing the Interceptor Plate Carrier Vest. This baby is standard issue in the U.S. military and has seen extensive combat. It also comes with optional attachments such as shoulder and thigh guards as well as a crotch pad. I think the Security Guard variant should be grey-brown and have the white "SECURITY" text on the back and for the PMCs it should be all black with a crotch pad and shoulder-guards. Also, for the PMCs, an S10 British gas mask with an Enhanced Combat Helmet. Tell me what you think.
